In heavy-duty workshops, there are certain jobs few technicians look forward to. Replacing kingpins is one of them. Components that have been in place for decades—exposed to weather, road salt, and extreme loads—tend to seize into the structure itself. Traditionally, the solution has been as obvious as it is time-consuming: disassemble, transport to a shop press, and work with large margins—both in time and physical effort. But that picture is beginning to change.

Wallmek continues to strengthen its international presence by expanding its local commitment to the UK market. The United Kingdom has been an important market for Wallmek for more than 15 years. During this time, our products have been available through established distribution partners, helping workshops across the country benefit from Swedish-engineered solutions for professional vehicle repair.

During Truck World (April 16–18) in Toronto, we took the opportunity to go beyond the exhibition floor. Together with Lou from OE Tool and Diagnostics, one of our local resellers in the Toronto Bay area, we spent one day visiting workshops already using Wallmek tools in their daily work. This gave us a valuable insight – not just into how the tools are used, but how they actually change the way workshops operate.

Working with pressed wheel bearings is a common but often demanding task in workshops servicing passenger cars, vans, and SUVs. Modern vehicles feature larger wheel bearings, more complex suspension systems, and sensitive components such as ABS sensors and aluminium steering knuckles. To perform the job efficiently, the right tools and controlled pressing force are essential.

In today’s workshop environment, the demands on both equipment and working methods are constantly increasing. Modern vehicles—especially electric vehicles, hybrids, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles—feature more advanced suspension designs than ever before. Strut assemblies are stronger, materials are more complex, and tolerances are tighter. This makes working with springs and shock absorbers both more demanding and more hazardous.
